It appears that Police-constable Watkins (No. 881), of the City Police, was going round his beat when, turning his lantern upon the darkest corner of Mitre-square, he saw the body of a woman, apparently lifeless, in a pool of blood. He at once blew his whistle, and several persons being attracted to the spot,
Hello MB. It is not at all uncommon for initial news reports to foul up a story. The whistle seems to have been Morris' and, indeed, within a few minutes several people were in the square.
