Could it be possible for the ripper to escape, by climbing onto the roof of some of the buildings?

I have no clue. The only thing I remember reading is the largest building in Whitechapel at the time (or is it the tallest) was right by Nichol's scene of crime.

Ok well maybe in that case we can rule the roofs being used as escape after Nichols' murder.

Then again, it may not be impossible to believe, people now adays do indeed climb high buildings and hang off the edge for fun.

I think, just my opinion, that Jack was definitely earthbound and not climbing anywhere after Nicholls's murder. He had good heating and excellent reflexes, enabling him to nick off as soon as he heard Charles Cross's hobnail boots approaching in the distance. (Of course there's always the possibility that Cross was Jack. He did have a false name!)
