The detective department at New Scotland Yard are engaged in making enquiries as to the author of a letter received yesterday by Mr Mead, the magistrate at the Thames police court, signed Jack the Ripper. The letter stated that Jack the Ripper had again arrived in London and would shortly resume operations. On the epistle was the outline of a coffin, drawn with blood or red ink, and in a piece of tissue paper was a portion of dried liver.

That's interesting. I wonder if there's anything more about this.

Though to me it seems like the same old thing regurgitated by the press to keep the Jack the Ripper story afloat, though going by the date it seems (to my recollection anyway) to be the 'latest' alleged Ripper letter.

Whether it actually existed or not, I think it's a safe bet to assume it was a hoax.
