    • Dr. Charles Tumosa's topic at RipperCon will be "The Forensic Time Machine: Looking Backward." The talk will be about using current forensic techniques to examine Victorian cases.

Dr. Tumosa received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1972. He worked at the Philadelphia Police Laboratory from 1971 to 1989 examining evidence in crimes of violence. He retired there as head of the Criminalistics Lab in 1989 and went to work at the Smithsonian Institution. At the Smithsonian's Silver Hill facility he set up an analytical laboratory and gradually morphed into a research position examining cultural materials and determining ways to preserve them. He retired from the Smithsonian in 2006 and in 2007 started working at the University of Baltimore (UB) in various teaching capacities and is presently the Director of the Forensic Studies Program. At UB he also instituted a Certificate Program in Document Examination.

        • Chris,

If it does become a biannual event, is it planned to be the same time each year?

Still trying to work out how I can get
          to one.

              Hi GUT

The British conferences are usually held in the second six months in the year so it was conceived when we held the first U.S. conference in Park Ridge, New Jersey, in 2000 that we would hold it in April. So yes, at present, the concept is to hold the American conferences in the Spring.

              Best regards

My friend Robert always says I sound like Ringo. Over in Liverpool they are not so sure.

As for Brian's voice, he could be selling a quality liquor or a fine cigar.

                Cheers

P.S. Here's another podcast. Not Ripper this time but War of 1812. • What influence did Richard Mansfield's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," which was being performed at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End during the "Autumn of Terror" of 1888, have on the Whitechapel murderer, if any? People at the time thought that the play may have provoked the murders. Did it?

We will discuss this topic and other theories about Jack the Ripper at RipperCon in two weeks' time in Baltimore. The event stars veteran Ripperologist Martin Fido (The Complete Jack the Ripper A to Z) . Sign up for RipperCon now! Deadline March 31. For information, go to http://RipperCon.com.

                            • Get your head around the mystery that Shakespeare's skull may be missing here, and, more importantly, don't forget that we will be discussing the "Great Victorian Mystery," as former Ripper Notes editor Christopher-Michael DiGrazia famously called the Whitechapel Murders, at RipperCon in Baltimore in less than two weeks' time! The photo of Larry with the skull is an obvious fake.

If it was genuine there would be a side of ham in there somewhere.
