Great answer, but doubt the slides still exist. On the subject of from hell, is there a copy of the envelope/address anywhere - I've never seen it? For the possibly linked Openshaw letter, the spelling and handwriting is awful in the letter, yet the address on the envelope is neater with difficult words (for someone who can only spell draw as dror) such as pathological and curator spelled correctly. I wondered if the same applies to from hell - address neater and correct spellings to make sure it reaches its destination, then main text disguised with awful spelling/handwriting.
Oh, I have no doubts that the slides are long gone, just a wishful thinking type thing. I don't think the original letter still exists, just a facsimile. If the envelope or a facsimile of it exists it would be in "Letters From Hell". Don't have my copy at hand to check at the moment. I don't recall seeing it though.
I know it is never going to happen and would probably be an impossible challenge if it did but exhuming the body of MJK would be fascinating. Question? If her body was located and a DNA sample taken how likely would it be her identity would be discovered?
Let's assume one could obtain verified DNA from MJK, identifying her from that is I respectfully suggest unrealistic.
What it would do would be to dismiss the various claims some make of a connection to her.

In terms of new research, a dream find would be Dr. Openshaw's old slides, with one labelled "kidney, Eddowes?", with the specimen still under glass.
A quick DNA sample to determine if human, then a comparison with Eddowes's descendants, and the status of the "From Hell" letter could be established.
Sigh. Since I'm dreaming, I want a pony too.

That you are convinced the kidney was that of Eddowes is clear, and a view held by many. Many others however, consider it a hoax.
I personally would not take Smith's writing as proof of anything.
Steve
Understand your view of Smith, however this is a bit different.
