Evening All...
Having spent a few days reading this forum...which I think is wonderful and a testament to a lot of hard work by many people...Is there any chance of leaving this thread as an open one for stupid questions?
For the folk who are interested in the subject but are out of their depth..as I am..?
As a new poster...it seems in no time at all when you ask a question, or put forward a theory...no matter how weak...In no time at all..it seems it has already been addressed..which is not a problem...in that case some kind person simply points you in the right direction...but on the odd occasion you end up on a thread that has escalated into some sort of argument between the more experienced in the subject matter...which is no problem when its done simply as debate...but when it gets acrimonious...you tend to back out and leave the lads to it...so to speak.
So I was simply wondering if this could be a thread for the blindingly obvious...
That way..some kind souls who don't mind going over the same stuff ad nauseum...can help..the ones who don't want to...just simply ignore it...and the ones who want to r*p the p*ss...simply come on and do that..its the internet..it bruises hardly at all

I have been around this forum for some twenty years and should say that the way you describe forum behavior is a good reflection of what goes on. Well done. Now, your forum post was headed "D'Onston for dummies" but you didn't mention D'Onston in your post, so do you have a question about him?

Welcome to Ripperology 101, the free-for-all discussion that is hard hitting and at times very intense.

I haven't been here long myself, but I have had little problem finding a place to say things. I've even started several threads and have great debates going on them.

But you have to get used to blunt speaking. People here have heard arguments on many points ad nauseum. At present I just finished The True Face of Jack the Ripper by Melvin Harris. He takes the time out in his book to detail why other authors are wrong. He doesn't say "IMHO, they are mistaken", it's more like "How can they be so stupid!"

Thicken up that skin, my man, this has been a subject of hot debate for over 100 years so get used to being cut short sometimes, just don't back down without getting your say in first!

I may have a raft of questions about Tumblety though!!!
Ive just been perusing some of the American press archives....well researching actually ....for a yorkshireman theres nowt better than researching sumatt for free while sitting on your butt...anyway...apart from his "Pimple banishing" ointment his arraignment for being a bogus MD...his cures for cancer...his involvement in several assassination plots...his attachment in a surgical capacity to General mclellan..(sp)... having his large dogs running up Pennsylvania avenue....
Where on earh did he find the time to do owt else????
What an extraordinary character!



P.S...just found out he cured the blind too....

Quite correct, Martha went by both Martha Turner and Martha Tabram.

After a week on the case...ive come up with my first conclusions on several of the subjects regarding this mystery...
my main suspect is "broad shouldered man" seen roughly handling Elizabeth Stride...I also believe him to be the author of the "saucy jack" postcard.
According to the wife................who is not a handwriting expert....she states..

"Judging by the spaces between the words....this man seems to have "Maniacally..broad shoulders"...
...........her words not mine...

"The first one squealed a bit"...saucy Jack
Shwartz... "She screamed 3 times...but not loudly"

I am in the meantime looking at Dr Tumblety...but in between trying to assassinate presidents, curing cancer, pimples and blindness...walking his
dogs and thrashing folk in the face with a cane...while he may have had the inclination...god knows where he found the bloody time!!!
