Has anyone accounted for the whereabouts of ABBA during the time of the murders?

                I am just saying. . . .

                Yours truly,

Oscar Wilde, whose father was a Freemason, was initiated into the Apollo Lodge No. 357 in Oxford on 23 February 1875. He took his second degree on 24 April and his third degree (Master Mason) on 25 May. This lodge practiced the Scottish rite and Wilde was admitted to the 33rd degree of this on 27 November 1876.

Can this be right? My grandfather was a Mason, and I somehow got the idea that it took a considerable amount of reading, preparation, and time to attain the highest degree. Is it really possible that Wilde could have gone from newbie to 33rd degree in only a year and nine months?

Hi Maurice, I seem to recall from Jack the Ripper: Scotland Yard Investigates that Warren also quickly rose within the strata of the Masons. So perhaps in that era, it was not uncommon for that to happen?

IF you were in the upper crust to begin with, or you were a hero, or the like.

Now, I'm posting to myself. Oh, dear.

I'm pretty sure Amorphis are heathens, therefore polytheistic, therefore not able to become Masons, so your safe there.

Alexi Laiho might be a whole 'nother story though

I think what you have to remember with Freemasonry is that its an essentially corrupt association. So how fast someone rises through the ranks depends on how much their face fits.

They are mainly a harmless social club with no real agenda other than to act as a fairly conservative social institution, but their favour network predisposes them to dodgy deals (often still involving building contracts and property development in UK) and to other forms of corruption and influence.

                                Corrupt Freemasons?

Oh dear are we back on the all Freemasons are corrupt? Bit Trenouthish there I think.

The main point about the Masons is that they look after their own, not a bad guide for a couple of Governments in the world. We seem to have a government here that thinks nothing of galavanting around the world dishing out large wodges of taxpayers cash that could be better used here in Britain.
