    Hello Lynn.
In due time (if/when you get the document) I'll try to locate the Polish translator through my Professor. Might take a while, as my Professor is on sabbatical in Hawaii (lucky fellow), but most of the time he has email access.
    Best regards,
    Maria

      Okhrana operations and hiring

Hello All. I have attached a scholarly paper regarding Okhrana's operational and hiring practices.

      Of particular interest are pp 8, 9 & 20.

PDF kindly provided by Simon Wood.

      Cheers.

        murphy

Hello All. I am still trying to establish the identity of Rachkovski's 2 London agents "John" and "Murphy." I have a candidate for "Murphy" and that is Maurice Murphy.

Maurice Murphy was an alias for Patrick Casey. Casey was a spy who helped forge documents against Parnell. Casey spent some time in Paris.

I hope to post some research on Casey soon.

        Cheers.

Hello All. Here is the more detailed story of Casey and Piggott. (This is already familiar to many.)

Clippings from the Echo, February 28, 1889.

              Cheers.

                            Hello Lynn.
Pertaining to your post #272, interesting article, pity it doesn't go too deep. Most interesting was to read about the “black cabinets“ in the Russian postal depots, and about the Okhrana opening hundreds of letters! I don't suppose that they might have had similar access to postal depots in Paris and London?! The author doesn't say anything about this. (As the discussion in his article is very limited and “generic“.) By the by, it only now dawned on me that Okhrana means “security“ in Russian.
Do you know anything about Henri Bint, the French head of Okhrana's team of detectives in Paris? (He's mentioned in a footnote in the article, also without any details.)

Referring to The Echo of February 28, 1889, p. 2, I was wondering if anyone (perhaps Debra Arif?) would be able to identify the shop in the Strand where Pigott previously had dealings with and where he cashed in his check of L25.
Good luck in researching Maurice Murphy/Patrick Casey, Lynn. Where did you get the info about Rachkovsky's agents “John“ and “Murphy“ again, Lynn, in Butterworth and Fischer? I almost don't wanna come forward with it, but can you imagine if the Okhrana was involved in the Parnell case? Forgery was not in the least foreign to them.
                              Best regards,
                              Maria

                                discrepancy

Hello Maria. Yes, Butterworth and Fischer are excellent sources for such information.

Well, some of the same dramatis personae of the earlier drama may well have been in the cast of the other one. But it would be a mistake to conflate these 2 groups. See why?

To put it another way, even given that the Anarchists nearly always made reference to "the Irish question," there is a HUGE discrepancy in these 2 groups that would naturally preclude their wide scale collaboration. Now, what is that "HUGE discrepancy"?

                                Cheers.
