What Ripper suspect was a socialist/anarchist, would have visited the Berner Street club, and would have been personally acquainted with no less than 3 other Ripper suspects (possibly more)?
    Jacob Levy?
    Best regards,
    Maria

      'angin's too good for 'em

Hello All. Looks like the Austrians were really concerned about anarchists in August of 1888.

      This is from Lloyd's.

      Cheers.

. . . and the Jews really cared about the Poles

          Star, 12th September 1888–

A man applied to Mr. Saunders at Worship-street to-day on behalf of another man for a summons for wages.

Mr. Saunders: Why doesn't the man speak for himself?

Applicant: He can't; he is a Pole.

Mr. Saunders: Well, then, let him go to Poland,

The applicant was about to leave the box when the magistrate said he had better explain the matter. The man then said that the Pole's master - a Jewish tailor - had not paid his wages, and kept putting him off from week to week.

Mr. Saunders: The Pole has no business in this country. He is taking the bread out of the mouths of Englishmen. You may have a summons, but I hope you won't succeed.

            turn about

            Hello Simon. Thanks for that.

Mr. Saunders' tit bit of wisdom reminds me of the story of the American abolitionist who was riding a train with some Southern clergymen. The clergymen decided to have some fun.

Clergymen: "Say, aren't you that famous abolitionist?"

Abolitionist: "Well, I'm an abolitionist, but I'm not famous."

C: "Are you trying to end slavery?"

            A: "I am."

C: "Well, why don't you give your lectures in a slave state?" (derisive laughter)

A: "You gentlemen are clergy, are you not?"

            C: "We are."

A: "And you are trying to save souls from Hell?"

            C: "Yes."

A: "Then why don't you go there and preach?"

            Cheers.

              Okhrana article

Hello All. Here is a link to an interesting article about Pyotr Rachkovsky and the Okhrana.

                Thanks Lynn,

For anyone who believes the WM was nothing but a cosy game of Cluedo, this declassified CIA report on the LVP Paris Okhrana should be required reading–

                  John and Murphy

Hello Simon. Thank you very much.

Has any one established the identity of the English agents John and Murphy? Since Murphy worked for Scotland Yard at one time, perhaps it could be ascertained?

                  Cheers.

                    Hi Lynn,

I'm on the case with Murphy and "John".

Michael Thorpe is another interesting Scotland Yard detective.

                    Regards,

                    Simon

                        women agents

Hello Simon. I found another Link to a CIA document open on the Okhrana.

                        Noteworthy is the following quote:

"The Okhrana was, in a limited sense, ahead of its time as an equal opportunity employer. It recruited people of all nationalities-and especially women-as agents. (37) Women, in fact, were crucial to its operations and were paid as well or better than their male counterparts . . . "

                        Fascinating!

                        Cheers.

Hello Simon. The last site I posted has a PDF concerning Okhrana lady agents. Of particular interest is part II, about indigenous agents.

Imagine using sex for information. Tsk.

                          Cheers.

Hello Simon. Well, it appears that the extensive Okhrana files have been preserved.

California, USA? If only there were a ripperologist from California to search the files.

                            Cheers.
