Hello All. Here is a Daily Mail article about White's book. Date is August 29, 1899.

They seem to have understood what White was really all about.

      Cheers.

Hello All. Here is a snippet from Lloyd's August 16, 1903. It concerns White going to jail. I believe it was related to a contempt of court charge.

              Cheers.

Hello All. This is from the Daily Mail February 2, 1920. The old boy is still active.

Why is the name William Le Queux ringing a bell?

                      Cheers.

                      • Hello Lynn et al,

According to Wikipedia Le Queux saw a manuscript in French written by Rasputin stating that Jack the Ripper was a Russian doctor named Alexander Pedachenko who committed the murders to confuse and ridicule Scotland Yard

                        • Beg your pardon, was that a rhetorical question?

                          • baby/bathwater

                            Hello Fiona. Yes, indeed.

I, and most researchers, dismiss this story since:

                            1. Le Queux wrote some sensational things.

                            2. It seems unlikely that Rasputin, given his status, would know about the case.

                            3. The motivation is all wrong. The Okhrana sought good will with neighbouring police forces. They went out of their way to cooperate.

                            4. The mutilations, caeteris paribus, make no sense. Why not just kill?

On the other hand, we may have thrown out the baby with the bathwater. Given that their concerns about the proliferation of Russian Jewish Anarchists in East London prompted the Okhrana's Paris office to open a London branch, imagine their delight at finding a maniac who "had a foreign appearance" and who had killed 2 women.

But, alas, he is now safely caged in an asylum. Ah, but where there's a will there's a way!

                            Cheers.

Hello Fiona. I presume some has. Actually, the Okhrana collection is housed in Palo Alto California at the Hoover Institute attached to Stanford University.

Most archive collections are accessible. Wish Special Branch's were.

                                Cheers.
