Pretty cool portrayal by Hugo Weaving. The movie itself is solid though. Anyone else catch it?

You'll probably like it. I don't know though, I was never really a fan of the Wolfman. I was more a fan of Mr. Hyde and Dracula. I only saw the film for Hugo Weaving and his portrayal as Abberline.
Plus in the movie, the Ripper case is mentioned very briefly.Scarlett (2010) (Completed)

My verdict, as a horror movie fan, was that it was pretty average. The story was fairly predictable - once a certain revelation came down about halfway through, it wasn't hard to predict how things would turn out. Effects ranged from very poor (the gypsy's bear in particular) to quite good indeed, with some very nice transformation scenes and some creative gore effects. Overall, a watchable film, but a bit of a disappointment since I would have liked a good rejeuvenation of the franchise.
As for Abberline (that's Francis, BTW, not Fred), there's one line to the effect of "Weren't you in charge of the Ripper case a few years back?" intending within the context of the scene to point out his failure in catching the culprit, and beyond that they could have called him Inspector whoever. He's not even called by name again after he introduces himself.
