isn't it said that the first 4 canonicals were cut twice in the throat? the first cut, the start. the second cut, to complete the circular motion around the neck.

yet, Chapman, and I believe Nichols were both nearly decapitated. correct?

if so, it seems to me that it would take someone with a lot of experience in making those type cuts. to nearly decapitate someone with what really amounts to a single cut across the throat. I am 230 pounds and consider myself pretty strong, but I don't think I could cut someone's throat down to the vertebrae with a single cut.
Hi Pontius, bet you could. Very sharp knife couple of inches of tissue, feel your own neck, theres not much to get though my freind, any average adult human with average strength could manage it I'd reckon.

    all the best

Cutting Throats ( Not To Be Tried At Home)

The throat doesn’t actually contain too much in front of the vertebrae. The toughest bit is the windpipe which is like a tough gristle, but once you are through that you’re just about there. It’s not very often that you would actually cut someone’s throat to kill them, if you just cut through the windpipe and miss the arteries they tend to run around a bit spraying blood everywhere which isn’t as much fun as it sounds.

One method is to attack from behind and place your free hand over the eyes of the target. Pull this back so the throat is exposed and slice into the side of the neck to open the carotid artery. Push forward to prevent getting sprayed with blood. The other method is to stick the point in just under the ear, angled so that you miss the windpipe and then cut forward to sever the artery. This is very ably demonstrated in the film “Proof of Life” where a chap did this with a Leatherman. There is a blade on that tool which is especially good for doing that with, I attach a picture. You’ll notice that the blade is quite short about 4”.

Just read the Eddowes' Post-Mortem and didn't found a mention of a second cut. The cut seemed to start with a superficial incision and end with more strength. Im a wrong ?
