That's assuming Jack and Eddowes met outside Mitre Square, which I doubt. They probably met someplace else beforehand and walked there together to conduct business, maybe discussing fees and stuff at Church Passage[?]. I think the PC's beat is accurate and Jack was just lucky again.

Valid point.
Jack's murder of Eddowes was eerily fast. But not impossible.
I haven't read her autopsy stuff in a while so I might not be right, but if Jack strangled Eddowes and pushed her down onto the ground, whipped out his blade and then immediately slashed her throat he could've killed her within 20 seconds. The facial mutilations wouldn't have taken any longer than a minute. And the abdominal rippings that were his main goal could've been achieved in under 5 minutes, if he acted quickly, which I'm sure he did given how he botched her up a little bit (i.e. the colon). So it's possible for him to have ripped her and escaped within a 10 minute timeframe.

Hi,
There is a quote from the movie JFK that I love. Costner says something to the efect that Scientist can proof an elephant can stand on one leg while balancing a daisy but is it likely. Jack probably would have had 8 minutes to kill and make good his escape. Watkins claimed not to here the sound of someone leaving.
Henry Moore who was Abberline's replacement claimed what makes it easy for him, Jack, is they, the unfortunates, take him to the place that interuption is least likely.. Chances are if Eddowes met the Ripper at the church passage then she took him to a place that she felt safe. Kate did not want to get caught either. Nobody knew the streets better then the prostitutes who worked them. It may have been common for the PC to be lax about walking his beat.

8 minutes is an incredibly small timeframe for Jack to do what he did... but I still think it's margingly possible, not to be a pain. ;p
He would've gotten straight down to business the second he had her offguard and in place. If acting quickly; the facial mutilations wouldn't have taken any longer than a minute, cutting open her abdomen would've taken maybe even less, and the rummaging around in her guts would've taken no more than four minutes, if that. So that's 5-6 minutes. Once he'd obtained what he wanted from the corpse all he'd have to do is slip them in his pocket (or Eddowes' severed apron piece), tuck the knife away in his coat or trousers and get the hell out of there (sprinting out of the square and then pacing inconspicuously once he was on the street). All in all, I think it could've been achieved in 7 minutes.
So if Watkins' beat was correct then Jack was VERY lucky and just got away with it in the nick of time.

I think we too often underestimate just how long a time eight minutes is. Watch those 480 seconds tick off on a clock some time and I think you will be surprised just how long it takes and how much you could do in that span of time.
