    Point of Arrival

The Ripper related chapter in the book is 'Jacob the Ripper', pages 111-121, and unfortunately has errors. Ripper books sourced for this chapter are McCormick's The Identity of Jack the Ripper (1959), Odell's Jack the Ripper in Fact and Fiction (1965) and Farson's Jack the Ripper (1972), also Anderson's The Lighter Side of My Official Life (1910). Overall a very good and readable book.

Has anyone read the Bermant and can recommend it? This is more my ballpark price-wise.

Interesting. I hadn't seen that photo on the cover before. Looks to be about turn of the century.

    Yes, it's pretty outrageous.

WEEKLY WORLD NEWS June 20, 1989. Woman was married to JACK THE RIPPER and reveals his identity. (Yet another "solution." Collect them all ...) Boy eats angel food cake and flies. Oprah Winfrey's spirit guide sends her the perfect man, baby glows in the dark, man eaten by ants, Bigfoot mummy discovered in Egypt .... the usual WWN hijinks. Quite good condition for a newsprint publication. Just a little darkened, but not at all brittle.

I have that Ripper article in my files!

Actually the story is quite plausible (compared to most of the tripe they publish).

The suspect was George Sims, if I remember correctly.

    Tumblety Pamphlet on Ebay

Here is a link to an Ebay site offering a pamphlet written by Tumblety re: the Lincoln assassination. It is quite pricey. The seller has a good rep. 99.9%

P.S. I loved arguing with people who would say "but there is a PICTURE" of "whatever" only to realize it is an "artist's impression of the photo."

Weekly World News! Is this the same publication that introduced the world to "Batboy"?

I have a few of their "papers" which included Nessie, Bigfoot and various aliens snapped with celebrities!

All good fun, but not to be taken seriously

    Hi Tom, Bob, Stewart.

That's the publication I have, I retrieved it from the book mountain that evolves in my bedroom over the week-end. As you say it was first published in 1836, F.A. Beaumont being the author of the section relating to JTR.

    Hi Philip

My bound copy of Punch covers only June-December 1888, there must have been several different versions of bound copies.

^ The card is quite costly. I'd bid on it but... erm... I already have a copy! We didn't use it in the book as it wasn't relevant. For those who might not know, the building is flanked on the left by St Botolphs and on the right by The Three Nuns. Ripper to the left of me, Ripper to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with transient tenants.
