I know! 'Managers'!! Gimme a break! As far as I am concerned, these are items of crucial importance to the history of the area, of London and, by extension, to the way society has developed. They are things of national interest and national importance--to delegate the decision about their fate to 'managers' is an absolute disgrace. Minister of Culture--my @$$ (which seems to be my saying for the day).
Oh, oh, back to say this too--this 'locally accountable.' Local to what? Boundaries are always changing, and it's not as if anyone but a total idiot would seek to divorce historical events in what is now Tower Hamlets from the rest of the country. (The Blitz, anyone?) What were they going to put in its place again? A holocaust bookshop and a Costa Coffee?
Off to kick the cat. Well, no cat, but still...best,
claire

Nice to see public opinion having a positive effect for once - or so says the optimist in me. My inner cynic wonders whether it isn't because prospective buyers might have backed off due to the financial crisis.
Either way, it's very good news.Kind regards, Sam Flynn
