I'd had one too many and thought I was on jtrforums where it doesn't appear to work.

All I get is an asterisk against my name*

If you are looking on the Who's Online list, you will see your name even if you are invisible, the asterisk is what lets you know that you are invisible. You will always be able to see you, even when others can't. That should work the same over there, as well, if they have the invisibility option. Not all forums do.
