If you are looking on the Who's Online list, you will see your name even if you are invisible, the asterisk is what lets you know that you are invisible. You will always be able to see you, even when others can't. That should work the same over there, as well, if they have the invisibility option. Not all forums do.

The invisibility option is a 'good thing' if you want to wander around the boards without anyone else knowing that you are on line. I haven't used it myself yet but I have been tempted!
