    I take it this is a reference to Elizabeth Stride. What did the Swedish word mean?

      It means fermented herring, a dish that is popular in the northernmost parts of Sweden and that Stride would not have consumed.

      Exactly why David thought this a good detail to start a thread on is something he is going to have to explain himself.
