Hello Robert. Yes, indeed. I have ever admired the one who is skilful at an art or craft--even though it were not a popular one. Even better then, as money and fame are not involved.

Boxing and baseball fans are quite fortunate that there are many good films about their sport. My motorsports film list only had five on it because that's about all that were any good.

Regarding films with a memorable boxing scene - The Quiet Man.

I agree that boxing, baseball, and American football are well covered. A few good tennis films too, "Strangers on a Train" using a tennis match in an unsual way to further the plot. Tracy and Hepburn's "Pat and Mike" also deals with it in the plot.

But how many films deal with cricket? The Ronald Colman and David Niven "Raffles" movies allude to it (Raffles is a champion bowler, I believe). But has any major English film really dealt with cricket? If someone knows of one please let us know.

Oddly enough, croquet does get a little film mileage, courtesy of Terry-Thomas in "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." His overbearing "Ware-Armitage" first appears when Robert Morley has some guests at a garden party where the game of croquet is quietly played, and Terry-Thomas has to start demonstrating how easy it is to knock Morley's ball out of it's position. Loveable type that.

Lynn, there was recently another film thread where people listed their favourite films. so maybe Quatermass was mentioned on there. I know I myself listed quite a few films on it, and so am not repeating them here.

Lost Highway- great film... David Lynch may be my favorite film maker ( one of them anyway....of the modern era anyway) and this is on my top 5 Lynch list!!

One day I was watching Lisztomania (probably my favorite of his films..... I did learn it WAS NOT one of his favorites ) and I thought to myself... I must write this man ( this was the days before the Internet was common... we actually wrote letters.. put them in envelopes and put international stamps on them and mailed them.... (young people would never understand this) and it would take several days/weeks to reach someone....), Anyway.. I went to a public library ( remember those ) and found a Who's Who directory... Looked him up and wrote him... a few months later I received a letter back, in which he asked I write again... so I did... and this went on for many years... ( he once sent me the press kit and poster for Lisztomania as well...as he knew I loved the film)... he was quite a guy
