You could argue that "keeping" of the victim is related to "control". Control is one of the psychological needs that serial killer is fulfilling by murder, mutilation, rape, cannibalism etc. On the contrary I would think Gein is close to who the Ripper was in terms of psychological profile. It is different MO, number of victims and his specific fetishises but we can clearly see in the Ripper the same curiosity about women body, killing as means - not as a goal, mutilation of the bodies and keeping body trophies - especially fixation on sexual organs. It is not exactly the same but still. Dahmer on the other hand is a bit different (especially cause he was homosexual) although he still have some similarities: fascination with viscera, cannibalism and mutilation of the body. But he was more organised, intelligent, sociable and to some extent even more disturbing and bizzare that both Gein and the Ripper.

I can say I came up with the term Keeper independently but I did hear someone else say Dahmer was a Keeper in an independently made serial killer doc. That video was a keeper but I didn’t keep it.
I always categorize based on the main feature, not the variation or departure. As in “simple” murder, there can different and “practical” reasons for the change in MO rather than the normally accepted psychological ones, rendering them as superfluous.

They're called "Keepers" (for lack of a better word and not to be confused with a boyfriend who's a keeper) because their priority is to keep the victim, rather than kill him or her. They keep the victim and spend time with them, unlike the Ripper.
It's the same as someone who ends up killing victims to subdue or keep them quiet. They're not real killers or not in the same category as the real ones who kill to kill.
Suff's good though.

Yes I know cases that you've mentioned. Especially Dahmer was into viscera: he had some weird fetish about it (among many others). I think he is among most deviant serial killers.
So with Edmund Kolanowski - he called himself 'cold surgeon'. He was cutting body parts from both killed victims and cadavers. I think he targete primarly sexual organs - vagina, possibly uterus etc. I don't think he took anything like kidney or heart. And like I said he was constructing weird doll (with attached body parts to it) to fulfill his deviant fantasies. I think Ferdinand Gruning (I'm gonna write about him later) was also extracting body parts.
Being from the states Im not that familiar with non american serial killers. kolanowski sounds very similar to the ripper and dahmer with a bit of gein thrown in. while gein used body parts from cadavers and women he killed to make weird stuff, there was no sexual nature to it as far as im aware.

interesting I1
here in the states the most similar to tje ripper is gein, dahmer and william suff imho
suff was a prostitute killer who post mortem mutilated prostitutes, although didnt do internal organ removal to the extent of tje ripper. he did target the sexual areas, breasts and privates like the ripper. he also killed his own baby.
your first two examples are similar to tje ripper like my three, but i have yet to find any serial killer who removed and took away internal body parts, in almost surgical, dissecting like process. i think out of all our examples maybe dahmer comes closest to the ripper in terms of sig?
im not bery familiar with your two examples... did any of them actually take away internal organs??

There's also a case of Ferdinand Gruning and I'm gonna write about it later: also very close to what Ripper did.

Similar cases to Jack the Ripper from Poland
Stefan Rachubiński - very similar case to JTR killings. Serial killer was called the ‘Vampire of Osieck’ (or ‘Monster of Osieck’) and he murdered two women (one victim survived and was able to give a description of the perpetrator) in the Bydgoszcz area in 1965/66. He targeted prostitutes and both of them were found with severe mutilation to their bodies: the killer was cutting their throats, he mutilated the abdominal areas (exposing internal organs) and rib cage. Surviving victim (19-year old woman) described the attack in which she was raped and cut multiple times with a knife. She also mentioned that the killer, during the attack, was licking blood out of her wounds.
Murderer was aprehended after he was seen with the last victim in one of the Bydgoszcz bars. He was a blacksmith from Osieck, 38 years old, a family man with children, by neighbourhoods described as harmless, quiet and shy, by his own family as - dependent. At first nobody believed that he was the killer.
Investigation revealed that Rachubiński had some criminal past involving violence against women (one rape attempt, one attack with a knife), stalking and exposing himself. He told the police that he derived ‘great pleasure from mutilation of women’. All of his crimes were done when he was drunk. He also mentioned that he had fantasies of killing his own wife (during sexual intercourses with her) but decided not to because of their children. He was executed for his crimes in 1968.
Possible similarities to the Ripper case and profile:
lust murderer - mutiliation of bodies;
attacking prostitutes as they were the most available victims;
psychological profile fits FBI profile of the Ripper (shy, unassuming man with violent fantasy life);
not very sophisticated, many times seen and described by witnesses;
Edmund Kolanowski - case especially close to the Ed Gein story, where the perpetrator was primarily necrophile and then also a serial killer. Kolanowski is the last person executed in Poznań (1986) when the death penalty was still present in Polish penal law. He killed three victims in a similar manner and it involved mutilation of the body and taking body trophies (as it was in case of the Ripper or Ed Gein). He was also responsible for digging up bodies at local cemeteries and taking trophies from bodies to stitch them to a manequin - to create a sort of sexual doll with attached breats and sexual organs.
When caught it was reaveled that he had some criminal past which involved attacking women around the lake Rusałka areas. He was also a petty criminal. When caught he was divorced and had two daughters from a previous marriage and one daughter from a living partner. He was considered by colleagues and friends as harmless, shy and withdrawn - incapable of violence.
Possible similarities to the Ripper case and profile:
lust murderer - mutilation of bodies and taking body trophies
perpetrator unassuming and viewed as harmless
not very sophisticated and rather unorganized criminal - random victims selection and a lot of risk taken during criminal act
criminal history of violence against women

Katarzyna Zowada - unsolved case of the murder of Katarzyna Zowada in 1997/98 in Kraków (Cracow) Poland. Victim vanished in November 1997 and her body parts were found in the Vistula river a couple of months after - in the winter of 1998. First one of the commercial ships on the Vistula river was stopped when something was stuck in its cogs. Strange, pale and soft material was taken out which was producing a gruesome stench. It turns out to be a skin taken out from a human (woman) torso with an attached portion of the ear. Postmortem evaluation shows that skin was taken carefully by knife to create a morbid suit or costume, nipples were clearly removed. Couple of weeks after that other parts of the same body are recovered: human leg and portion of buttocks. DNA analysis revelead they belonged to missing Katarzyna Zowada.
Couple of years ago a man was arrested for this crime but after a second sentence (and a couple of years of investigation) he was deemed innocent and released. Investigation is therefore still ongoing. Prosecutor seems to be sure of his conviction but evidence are not pointing to the mentioned man. This case is considered to be one of the most tragic and gruesome in Polish crime history and remains unsolved. Overall murders (sexual in nature) are seldom connected with removal of the victims skin.
Not many similarities here with Ripper case (except for its gruesome nature) - perpetrator rather organized, intelligent and with some planning skills. In all probability Katarzyna was kidnapped, murdered and her body abandoned in different locations. There is some indication that this crime might be sadistic in nature (sexual sadists tend to be more sophisticated criminals). Very likely Katarzyna knew her murderer and was in some relationship with him - before she vanished she was skipping her college classes (for two weeks) which even her mother didn’t know. Nobody really knows what was happening with her in this time period.
