The First train murder doc

Last night on BBC 2 [on catchup now] a programme documenting the murder of Thomas Briggs in a train going to Hackney in 1864.
This very notorious murder attracted a lot of press attention and there has always been a doubt as to the guilt of Franz Mueller the young German hanged for it.
The doc was good, it went into the police investigation, the political aspects, public opinion,the witnesses and a bit about Victorian prostitution.

Worth a watch if the case is unknown to anyone.

A book came out last year called "Mr Brigg's Hat" (IIRC). It was promoted as a sort of follow-up to Kate Summerscales' "The Suspicions of Mr Whicher". I found it disappointing, with much less substance, as less well written than Mr Whicher.

I saw about 3 minutes of the doc last night and might try to catch up on i-player. It did look interesting.
