  • Torso found in London canal identified as 'Eastenders' actress

Was researching torso murders, wondering if Jack the Ripper was the one responsible for the Pinchin Street Torso murder. Saw this.

LONDON -- A headless and limbless body found in an east London canal has been formally identified as "EastEnders" actress Gemma McCluskie, Sky News reported Friday.

McCluskie's brother, Tony, reportedly has been arrested in connection with her disappearance last week although police have not formally identified the 35-year-old man they have in custody.

McCluskie, 29, lived with her brother in Bethnal Green, east London, and he helped organize a search after she disappeared, including putting up posters, The (London) Times reported.

The body was discovered near a stretch of Regent's Canal in Hackney Tuesday afternoon.

McCluskie starred in the long-running British soap "EastEnders" as Kerry Skinner in 2001, appearing in more than 30 episodes.

After she vanished, co-stars Natalie Cassidy and Brooke Kinsella both appealed for help finding her.

    and it was her brother:

Gemma McCluskie's brother appears in court charged with her murder

The brother of a former EastEnders actor has appeared in court accused of murdering her and dumping her torso in a canal.

Gemma McCluskie's headless and limbless body was discovered floating close to Broadway Market in north-east London last week.

Her 35-year-old brother Tony spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a one-and-a-half-minute appearance at Thames magistrates court.

The chair of the bench, Cliff Lynn, told the defendant a bail hearing would take place at the Old Bailey within the next 48 hours.

Lynn told McCluskie, of Hackney: "You are remanded in custody. A preliminary hearing has been provisionally set for 26 March."

The actor, 29, who played Kerry Skinner in the BBC soap in 2001, went missing days after attending the opening ceremony of the £650m Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London.

Her remains were discovered on Tuesday when a member of the public reported a suspicious object in Regent's Canal.

And , regarding a series of murders over 100 years old, is what exactly?

I didn't put this here because it is directly related to the Ripper but only because it is the Eastend, 'shades of Whitechapel'. I thought that was appropriate placement.

But also it surprised me because of course the torso murders are so shocking one thinks of them as being done by someone likely disconnected of the victim. Yet this was done by this woman's brother whom she lived with.

The study of this sort of behavior, so to speak. It's pretty incomprehensible.
