  • Long Island Serial Killer

This case is ongoing. I saw a program on this last night. This serial killer is still at large. Some points:

-has been operating since about 1997 (this has recently been discovered. it was thought that he started around 2007, but recent discovered remains show that he has been active much longer).
-so far 10 bodies discovered in the underbrush(some IDed, some not) along a beach stretch on Long Island including Oak and Gilgo beach.
-Victims were female sex workers or "escorts"(most found on Graigslist and other online sites). However one remains was a toddler that matched DNA to another female body. Police surmise the mother had the toddler with her when she met her killer. One victim was a male who was found wearing what appeared to be a dress.
-The killer used one victims cell phone to continually call her younger sister to taunt her. Police traced via GPS that the phone calls were coming from manhattan Times Square area. The voice was described as white male middle aged.

    Very strange and disturbing case.
Anyone like to add anything else they know about this. Thoughts? Comments?

After thinking about this a bit i would surmise that the killer works in Manhattan (where the phone calls were made) and has either a home or vacation home on long island. I think he also must be someone who is very familiar with that beach area.

Quite the opposite, actually. Would have been too risky for him to call from close to his home or work environment. Times Square might have been picked due to the noisy and generic environment.
      Best regards,

        Hi maria
You may be right. From the program now I remember that they traced several of his calls real time with GPS to the street in Times Square and were able to use the many surveillance cameras there to look and basically said there were too many people and on cell phones to actually pick someone out.

I think though that at the very least this guy must live or have a vacation home on Long island to know that area so well to dump the bodies.

I'm keeping an eye out on this case. Hoepfully they will catch this bastard soon!

They just announced two days ago the discovery of an eleventh victim, a woman from New Jersey whose disappearance last year sparked the entire investigation.

            Hi mayer
Thanks-I had not heard of it. It appears they found her remains about a quarter mile in a marshy area from where her pants, purse, cell phone and shoes were found. yet the police are maintaining that she is not a victim of the LI SK and that she died accidently while fleeing the area in a panic!?!?
Her driver was the last one known to see her alive-They need to take another look at that guy.

Hi. I am new to this forum but been reading it for months and love it.

I come from near the area of Long Island where these murders are taking place, West Islip.

There is a bridge that goes from West Islip over the great South Bay to Oak Island, where Gilgo Beach is. The dumping ground of these bodies.

I moved from LI to Phx Az but went home for a vacation back in April 2004. I was showing my husband my home turf and took him over the bridge.

At Captree State Park, down the road from Gilgo Beach where these bodies are being discovered we parked to get out and see the beach and were surprised to see on the beach was a mobile forensic lab and a number of men searching the grasses lining the back of the beach.

The men turned and looked at us and it was apparent we were not welcome on the beach. This is years before this story came to light and before they say the investigations started.

Later, when the story came out I naturally remembered the beach investigation years before and noticed the claim it started much later. I don't think so.

In the beginning they were investigating a man involved with one of the murdered girls, Shannon, a Craig's list girl seen at a house on Gilgo Beach owned by a Joseph Brewer. She was last seen running from his house screaming for help by the neighbor. Brewer was the last person to see her alive.

Brewer owns Higbie Liquors, which is in my home town of West Islip. After he became a suspect he moved in with his mother's home in West Islip.

For some reason they say they have discounted Brewer but I read recently in a post by a local his house in WI is still being watched via drive by police.

The story, of course, interests me.

                Hi Beowulf
Interesting stuff-thanks for posting and welcome.
If I am not mistaken, her driver was the last to see her alive after she fled Brewer's neighbors house-the old man. So Brewer was the third to the last who saw her alive. But her "panic" apparently began in his house, so maybe he did something suspicious that set her off.

Also, are the police still maintaining she died accidently and is not a victim of the serial killer? I find that very odd, as some of her belongings and clothes were found some distance from her body.

I still think they need to keep an eye on her driver, as he was the last to see her alive. The caveat with him is he is asian and the killers voice was described as white and middle aged from the phone calls he made to one of his victims sisters. very very strange case-keep us informed if you hear of any more tidbits.

Hi, thank you for the welcome

Yes, the police still believe Shannon is not one of the murdered victims, even though she was running from his home screaming "they are trying to kill me". I guess I was wrong about Brewer being the very last to see her alive.

Apart from that a local forum, which is where I read the comment they are driving by Brewer's house, has some interesting comments about this:

Evidently, Brewer is selling his home.

Shannon's mother is of the opinion that it is Brewer.

The locals seem to be frustrated with the police handling of the whole thing.
