"Grim Sleeper" Killings

The police arrested a retired police mechanic and charged him with murdering ten people in Los Angeles over a 25 year period. What is interesting is that he apparently took a 14 year hiatus between killings thus earning him the nickname "Grim Sleeper."

The pattern is emerging

So we get yet ANOTHER serial killer who was at large for a long period of time and finally caught. Here is an excerpt from an article on CNN.

"The Grim Sleeper's story paints an eerie picture of a man accused of living practically a double life -- like many other serial killers, including the BTK strangler -- who was well-known in the neighborhood where he committed his crimes.

Franklin lived close to where his victims' bodies were found -- something police and criminal profilers had expected. "

These guys often kill near where they live. I would expect nothing different from JTR. Probably a local guy who no one ever suspected.

The 14 year hiatus suggests that maybe JTR also just went to ground and stopped.

The police sketches made from the description of the only known surviving victim are completely unlike Lonnie Franklin.

This could suggest that:
(a) The victim turned out to be an unreliable witness.
(b) All police sketches should be treated with extreme caution.
or
(c) There was an accomplice.

Or D.) it's been 22 years since that sketch was released and the dude has put on about 40 pounds since then, lost his hair and aged 2 decades.

There are mugshots for him dating back to 1993, and he doesn't look so very different to how he does now.
