The big girl Bellfield wouldn't show up at the court due to Bad Press!
Well Duh, you just killed 2 innocents, tried killing a third and maybe killed even more, what do you want, a line of people wanting to pat you on the back??

I am so glad he got sent down, and I am sure the Queens of the prison are too!

I was at Local Studies for hours yesterday and although i got lots of New Jack the Ripper newspaper reports, there was nothing on the Hull Strangler, my father is a local crime historian so i will speak with him later.
(He slept through the earthquake last night)

I too am delighted that this evil b'stard Bellfield has been given life with no hope of ever being released.

He winked and laughed at victim's families in court and yelled at them to F off. When it came to sentancing, he refused to come into the courtroom and stayed in the cells.

It's also now being investigated concerning his first girlfriend who was murdered when she was 14 and he was only 12, and no one ever brought to trial for it (shades of Ed Gein's brother?)

What a turd. I'm usually compassionate but I hope this scumbag gets what he's due.

Trevor Hardy, convicted 1977, murdered three teenage girls in 15 months in Greater Manchester, serving a whole life tariff.

Anyone have any more useful information?

    Hi Dark,

The Second Edition by Michael Newton. They're just listed in the appendix - not many details. The "Hull Strangler" was just the name I gave the killer here due to the method shown. I'm a listed contributor to that publication but I had nothing to do with those two entries so I don't know anything about them. From the dealings I've had with Newton, he checks things out pretty thoroughly before he puts them in his book.

Mike-Have you heard of the "Hull Strangler"? As per The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, he murdered three prostitutes there in 1997-1998. There is a fourth woman missing who is also thought to be a victim. That's about all they say about the case other than that the killer is male.
I have no record of either case - but both ingrigue me (spelling!).

Which edition of the Encyclopedia of Serial Killers is it - the most recent?

    EDIT: Devon Slasher;

You may remember items about the "Devon Slasher," who has now been
rechristened the "The Country Lane Killer" by the British Press. He
has murdered several women who were walking their dogs in England's
scenic Devon countryside. He has apparently struck again, killing a
dog-walker on May 11, and stalking another around July 3. The latter
was unharmed, she says, because her huge Alsation dog scared the
    knife-wielding man away.

Dog walk woman is stabbed to death
    By Michael Fleet

A WOMAN was stabbed to death as she walked her dog in a country
park close to one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country.
The woman, thought to be in her thirties, had been killed by a single
stab wound. Her body was discovered by a man walking his dog in the
Ver Colne Valley Walk at Watford, Herts, close to the M1. The
victim's dog was standing by the body when the discovery was made,
    police said.

Detectives believe the woman was murdered just minutes before her
body was discovered. A bare chested man in his late twenties was seen
leaving the area at the time of the killing, on Tuesday evening. Two
young girls were indecently assaulted in the area a month ago but
although the description of the attacker was similar to the shirtless
man, police said they were not making a positive link.

Detectives are also expected to speak to officers from Devon and
Cornwall who are investigating the murders of 14-year-old Kate
Bushell, from Exeter, and Lynn Bryant, from the Roseland Peninsula,
Cornwall, who were both stabbed to death while walking their dogs.

The victim's parents are thought to be on holiday and police refused
to name her until they had been informed. She is thought to have
lived alone and to have been a regular walker on the network of
    footpaths in the area.

    ISSUE 1866 Tuesday 4 July 2000

    Stalker may be double murderer
    By Michael Smith

A KILLER who may have knifed a woman and a girl while they were
walking dogs might be preparing to strike again. A man with a knife
has followed another woman walking her dog.

Carmen Boxwell, 46, said yesterday that she believed it was only the
growling of her six-stone alsatian dog which saved her life. Mrs
Boxwell saw the man as she passed his dark blue Volvo car in a car
park by Batson Creek, near Salcombe, Devon. As she walked down to the
creek, he got out of his car and followed her along the path.

It was then that she saw the six-inch knife, she said. "When I saw
the knife in his hand I thought 'Oh no, he is going to kill me.' He
followed me all the way and it was only when my dog stopped that he
stopped as well. I know he was scared of Topsy. I thought the man was
going to kill my dog and then attack me but Topsy is wonderful and
she doesn't let anybody come near me. I know in my heart he would
have attacked me if Topsy had not been with me. I am sure she saved
    my life."

Devon and Cornwall Police sent 24 officers and a helicopter to the
area, fearing that the incident could be connected to the unsolved
murders of Lyn Bryant and Kate Bushell. Both were walking dogs. Kate,
    14, was killed on Nov 15 1997, while walking a neighbour's Jack
Russell along a lane near her home in Exeter, Devon. Her father found
    her with her throat cut.

Lyn Bryant, 41, a housewife, was stabbed to death on Oct 20 1998, as
she walked the family lurcher in Ruanhighlanes on the Roseland
Peninsula near her home in Truro, Cornwall. Despite wide-scale
investigations, both murders remain unsolved and police say that it
is possible that they were carried out by different attackers.

Nevertheless, there were a number of similarities between the two
cases and they have been persistently linked. Both the victims were
women out walking a dog alone in rural areas. The weapon in both
instances was a knife and there were sightings in both cases of a
pale-coloured van. Devon and Cornwall police said last night that
they were taking the possibility of a link between Sunday's incident
and the two murders very seriously.

A spokesman said: "There may be a link with the two murders. Here we
have a woman in a rural area followed while walking a dog by a man
with a knife. There is nothing to say it is not the same person
responsible for the murders and we would be crazy not to take this
    seriously.

"We put pretty much everybody we could out there on Sunday because of
the possibility it could be the same man. We had the helicopter and a
good couple of dozen officers but we still didn't manage to locate
the vehicle. Now we are trying to establish the ownership of the
    Volvo through database checks."

The man Mrs Boxwell saw was white with a suntan, clean-shaven, aged
around 40, in green corduroy trousers and a blue sweatshirt. The
investigating officers were very keen to talk to him, the spokesman
said, adding that the man could have been completely innocent.

"He didn't attack Mrs Boxwell or speak to her. He was simply behind
her on the path. There is a lot of fishing that goes on in that area
and at that time of the morning he may well have simply been out
fishing." Mrs Boxwell, who is originally from Honduras, said last
night that she had not been aware of the two murders in the area.

She said: "The police told me it could connect with the two murders.
I think they are right. By the time I got back my clothes were soaked
with sweat because I was so scared. I am lucky to be here now and
talking. I could have been the next victim."

    Hi Stan,

Prostitute murders/beatings are fairly common in Hull and I have heard of quite a lot over the years.
One that shook me the most was the brutal murder of prostitute Maria Toomey.
Marie was found with her head caved in by a hammer (popular method of killing here) and died instantly.
What set this apart was the fact I was in the same class as Maria for 5 years and although we weren't close we used to talk.
They eventually got her killer who claimed it was self defence, but Maria was knee high to a peanut and although that was her trade she was always a shy girl.

There was another case several years back were a prostitute was found (still alive but badly beaten) in a skip, when they revealed the full story she was over 60 years old!! Some young kid had got what he wanted but refused to pay and beat her within an inch of her life!

There have been dozens of "Hammer Attacks" in the City but they are not linked and the Police always get there man.

Now what about Bruce Lee, the infamous arsonist, he lived in the West of the City and was prone to Homosexual feelings, when he was knocked back he would go on a spree setting fire to anything and everything.
The method of setting these buildings alight was so clever even the specialists argue over wether he actually carried out some of the attacks.

I will try and find out his exact body count but i am sure it was fairly high.
(Bruce Lee is not his real name but he changed it to that of his hero!!)

People are forever mis-spelling Nilsen's name so let's get this clear : it's Dennis Nilsen.

Not to be confused (as he often is) with Donald Nielson (AKA Donald Nappey AKA The Black Panther).
