Vic one was raped in her own home after attacker waited for her, vic two was stalked from Lea Bridge Road to St James St station and raped in an alley, and vic 3 was dragged into a playground and strangled.

He's operating roughly over a monthly-cycle. Power-assertive? He's displaying some mixed messages, mind.

They're calling him, "The Calendar Killer".

Not a good idea to give a highly-sexed, power-motivated, egotistical serial rapist and killer a frigging nickname and media attention on the day best estimated to be the height of his cycle (Crimewatch screened an appeal on the 30th of June, a month since the Calendar Killer - so called because he strikes once a month, usually near the end - last attacked).

Were the police trying to elicit a response - for response, read "murder" - from the attacker? Because I think it's some pretty bad tactics.
