  • New York City Workingmen's Lodging Houses

    Hi all,

I put this is Shades of Whitechapel since it gives us a glimpse of what the crowds at Victorian Workingman's lodging houses might have looked like. If there is a better place, let me know.

Here are a few photographs from the Municipal Workingman's Lodging House(s) in New York City, taken circa 1909-1917.

From the awesome website Shorpy, where you can view images full-size. For these, search term "lodging".

Great find, Jon. The accommodation seems much more "human", somehow - certainly more spacious - than their contemporary British counterparts.
    Kind regards, Sam Flynn

Geez, they actually have beds. I wonder how much of this was just for the photographers.

      Nice, Jon. Thanks.
