Even though I am a life-long resident of the Chicago area and was an adult when this happened, somehow I never heard about this. My excuse is that I was away at college at the time but still its strange to find out about something like this happening effectively in your own back yard.
A group of four men went on a months long (maybe longer) killing spree in the city and suburbs. Their victims were sometimes prostitutes but were also occasionally women they literally grabbed off the street. They tortured, raped, and killed their victims, frequently mutilating them and removing a breast which they reputedly then ate in a bizarre pseudo-Satanic ritual. And that's the cleaned up version.
