Don't be silly, there weren't any torso murders, only torso mysteries!

Thanks Steve, I am available for weddings, barmizvahs, etc...

There was also a torso found in 1874 I think, but I can't remember the name...the Putney bridge torso?

                Controversy over the Torso Mysteries

Some people say we cannot know for certain that the Torso Mysteries belonged to people who were, in fact, murder victims.

I think it is tempting to assume that dismemberment is always a way to dispose of a murdered person, and it is one that is often used. But in the case of the Torsos, only one or two indicated definite signs of murder.

Also in 1884, about the same time as the Tottenham Road case, an arm and two feet were discovered at Mornington Crescent. They did not belong to the same body as the Tottenham victim.

It's not one of the usual torso cases, but I came across a report from Nov 1888 in which a couple fled their lodgings, leaving behind the dismembered corpse of a newborn baby.
