  • Does anyone remember the Aussie Musician

The musician who claimed to know the guy who penned the Maybrick Diary? His name was Steve something and he claimed the singer in his musical group was the author of it. He wrote a book, but I don't know if it was printed. He remembered the story here bit by bit as if he were making it up as he went along. Anyway, I just read where a singer from the Easybeats just died named Steve Wright and was wondering if this were the same man who supposedly wrote the diary. Anyone remember?

Don't thinkl poor old Stevie could write his own name. Drugs and booze and all. Met him a few times.

Frst I've heard that story will have a hunt around.

Maybrick A-Z says that someone called Steve Powell said that his frend Steve Park wrote it.

Now I've followed the Aussie music scene for a few years now, and can't say I know either of this two, the only Steve Powell I can think of (and not sure it's the same bloke) was a drummer.

A sometime Aussie rock musician called Steve Powell did indeed claim that he knew Anne Barrett nee Graham before she was married to Mike of the same name, and when she was working as a nurse in Australia. He changed his story so many times that no-one eventually took him seriously. At one point he alleged that he had helped Anne and her Australian boy-friend to forge the Diary. Read 'Ripper Diary' by Linder, Morris (Caz) and Skinner. Hopefully Caz will respond on this thread.

Thanks guys. I was here for the Steven Powell craziness. I knew his culprit was a Steve and that he had been a lead singer for an Aussie rock group from around the time of the Easybeats and that he had left Powell's band. Had forgotten his surname was Park.

Oh yeah, Graham do you remember that Powell's ex-girlfriend was here on the site, presumably by chance and they reconnected? It could have been a set-up but it took forever for them to figure out who each other was.
