Queen Elizabeth II surpasses Queen Victoria's long reign

I am a republican and believe that monarchies have had their time. They serve no purpose in this day and age

They do serve a purpose in England, because we're the sort of country that instinctively believes things were better in days gone by. Everything. We're an innately conservative country taking our luggage with us into the future, meaning we're opposed to many forms of change.

Why the Australians would want to keep them is most certainly puzzling though.
