Carli Lloyd went beast-mode. Awesome. Unprecedented?
At the end, the announcers said "the drought is over." I thought, huh, they just won it a few cycles ago. As it turns out, that was 1999, which seems like yesterday to me yet is "a drought."

Hi Barnaby
yes I believe it was unprecedented-I think she is the only player, men or women, to score a hat trick in the championship game.
what drought? the world cup for women is relatively recent to begin with, they won two previously, and numerous Gold medals in the Olympics in between.
I noticed the announcers seemed to be giving the Americans back handed "compliments" the whole time like that-morons.

It's a shame I had to miss the final. Lousy time differences! I was rather enjoying the women's football, made a refreshing break from the men's. The football was highly competitive and games weren't constantly interrupted by playacting. The goalkeeping still leaves a bit to be desired, however.
From Voltaire writing in Diderot's Encyclopédie:
"One demands of modern historians more details, better ascertained facts, precise dates, , more attention to customs, laws, commerce, agriculture, population."
