There are two ways to be fooled, one is to believe what isn't true, the other is to refuse to believe that which is true.

I think you have it spot on there Robert. It's very difficult to get the balance right between people naturally being accommodating of others and having to legislate to achieve equality.

That's all very well - if you have the vote.

I didn't express that too well.

I'd rather them have their sign up so I know their attitude when it comes to voting than have it sprung upon me once they are elected.

Julie, this has got nothing to do with equality. This is about laws that say in effect "It shall be illegal to behave in a way that we deem to be irrational - but only if you're irrational to ... (insert list of your choice). If you refuse to talk to your next door neighbour because you believe he is composed of anti-matter, we will leave you alone." It is in fact an exercise in inequality.

Odd considering Robert's argument is the polar opposite of yours. Not sure how you can say: "you have it spot on".

There is legislation providing for equality. That being equality under the law: voting rights, entitlement to due process etc.

Your idea of equality is completely different. You want to dictate to a private individual on how he should conduct his business: this is only equality in your eyes and among those of you on the left. An exercise in reason would conclude that given the definition of Totalitarianism is censorship, then your idea of equality is anything but.

Your are pretty fond of telling people what their ideas are but so no good at reading what they've actually written. No where in my posts did I suggest that a business should be forced by law to serve anyone.

You have no idea what my idea of equality is. You just think you do.

On this occasion, my mistake then. And, I agree you haven't posted such a thing in this thread.

But, your posts on other threads have suggested otherwise.
