Another one who seems to be in the wrong profession, but at least seems to have arranged another Doc to take the patient.

There are two ways to be fooled, one is to believe what isn't true, the other is to refuse to believe that which is true.

This is actually legal. Refusal of care is legal in non emergent situations as long as continuity of care is taken care of. And we want this to be legal. We want doctors who hate us to be able to excuse themselves from our care, because when they cannot, our recovery rate plummets. It's absolutely cowardly and selfish to refuse to put another person's well being over your opinion. But we are human. And we are all equally capable of doing it. I've had a doctor refuse to treat me and it hurt my feelings not a bit. And what the article apparently doesn't realize is that antidiscrimination laws still won't prevent doctors from exercising their right to refusal of care. What that doctor did was correct, and if these women want to lessen the pain in their life they'll realize that doctor did them a favor. Because they would find out what she really thought, and they would have been horrified that they let her touch their baby. The *******s weed themselves out of places of import in our lives. Let them self select their way out the door.

I agree with Errata and have made this same argument many times regarding cases such as this. Forcing people to hide their prejudice and serve people they don't want to does not accomplish any meaningful change. You cannot legislate open-mindedness and you cannot force people to change their minds via law.

The law cannot prevent people from serving you badly therefore the law needs to allow them to refuse to serve you because it is in your best interest to find people who want to do a good job for you, and not serve you only because they must, by law.

It is interesting that this is the course of action that the doctor took after praying on the matter. So are we to believe that God instructed her to forgo treating an innocent and helpless newborn baby? It seems God runs a tight ship.

I don't think anyone who's read any of the instruction manuals for any of the major religions could fail to recognize the fact that all the deities currently leading the packs are a gigantic bag of dicks. Gods are uniformly petty and vindictive towards their subjects. Why precisely would a god object to the bad treatment of a child. Their texts are full of gods killing them left and right and ordering their followers to do the same.
