  • Hello!

    Just wanted to introduce myself.

My first love was history--I was a history major until my Sophomore year of college, when I took a chemistry course that changed my life. So I have a lot of respect for those who do historical research, although my interests probably lie in slightly different areas from most here. I am as much or more interested in learning more about what life was like during Victorian times than in solving these crimes.

I actually don't have a favorite Ripper suspect at the moment--but still have a lot of reading to do to catch up. My secret hope is that it is someone who no one ever thought of Of course that is likely wishful thinking, as it seems nearly everyone in London has been named as a suspect at one time or another.

Probably won't be participating very much until I get up to speed--I am woefully behind in basic facts (I just realized this on another thread as I honestly had no idea what color a suspects hair was).

After nearly 30 years of scientific training--I have an extremely methodical way of analyzing problems. Hopefully I can add something edifying to the discussions here. I do my best to approach everything with an open mind, a sense of humor, and not to let my ego get in the way of my objectivity.

    G'day Christopher

Welcome, I hope you hang around after the "Shawl" dies down. Things can get pretty heated at times, but that can be half the fun. Not that I've ever been known to get hot under the collar myself .

What sort of History is it you are interested in. I too am fascinated by the lives of these poor people.

Don't worry about lack of knowledge on the facts it doesn't seem to stop a lot of people.

I think that many here actually do believe that Jack is probably an unknown.

My main interest is presidential history--one of my life's goal is to visit every Presidential library. For those presidents that don't have a library, I am trying to visit a spot with significance to them (an example would be Monticello for Thomas Jefferson).

I also enjoy biographies about all kinds of people--I love learning about people from all walks of life--paupers to princes. And in the case of the poor folks of Whitechapel--so many of their stories have been forgotten, overlooked, untold. They aren't available to even be read. I want to at least learn more about how they lived.

            Welcome Christopher!!!

Presidential history eh? I am from the town that gave birth to one, shot another and swore in yet another.....which reminds me of a great Presidential trivia question...who are the US presidents who were Assassinated, where were they killed, and what stands at the site of the assassinations today?

I hope you enjoy your time here, just watch out for all those Brits and Aussies who will try to get you to join their cults…. (they know who they are )

But seriously, a great group of people around here, and I think you will have fun and learn quite a bit, and sounds like you will also be able to teach us quite a bit as well...

            Again welcome!!

                    G'day Christopher

You'll need to have a look around in "Pub Talk" to "GET" the references to Cults and Bigfoot.

Pub Talk is usually the most fun.

I must admit I'm a little concerned about the amount of people a lot new posters especially who are totally convinced that this shawl/table runner/yoyo/gourmet jelly bean/ story is true.Everyone has a right to an opinion however I am very concerned that person or persons are going to make a lot of money out of this out of something that is been sold as SOLVED and it isn't and can never be proved it just ain't right.
