Just wanted to introduce myself.
My first love was history--I was a history major until my Sophomore year of college, when I took a chemistry course that changed my life. So I have a lot of respect for those who do historical research, although my interests probably lie in slightly different areas from most here. I am as much or more interested in learning more about what life was like during Victorian times than in solving these crimes.
I actually don't have a favorite Ripper suspect at the moment--but still have a lot of reading to do to catch up. My secret hope is that it is someone who no one ever thought of
Of course that is likely wishful thinking, as it seems nearly everyone in London has been named as a suspect at one time or another.
Probably won't be participating very much until I get up to speed--I am woefully behind in basic facts (I just realized this on another thread as I honestly had no idea what color a suspects hair was).
After nearly 30 years of scientific training--I have an extremely methodical way of analyzing problems. Hopefully I can add something edifying to the discussions here. I do my best to approach everything with an open mind, a sense of humor, and not to let my ego get in the way of my objectivity.
