I just went to settings/update and security. Attempted to sign into my Microsoft account but didn't know the password.They texted a code to sign in on my phone and set up a new password. Just clicked on I want to sign up for Extended Security Updates. It was free and will last for a year. So really no hassle at all.

Better safe than sorry.

Does this mean that Microsoft will cease and desist from taking over my computer in the early hours of the morning, whether I like it or not, and regardless of processes that I have running? I still have an Alienware computer running Windows 7 - those were the days.
