    King Charles Opens Canadian Parliament

If People don't mind, I've got a couple of questions about King Charles in Canada.

Click image for larger version Name:	2025 May- King Charles at Canada.webp Views:	0 Size:	31.7 KB ID:	854479

First of all, since he's operating in his official capacity as Sovereign, shouldn't he be in his kingly gear? Crown, etc.? Secondly, I don't expect Anyone to come up with a FULL list of the dozen or so medals he's wearing, but what is the one around his neck? (I assume it's a specific regular one, rather than just "Eeny-meeny-miney-mo. We will wear THIS one today".)

BTW, has there been any criticism about him taking the reign name "Charles the 3rd"? I recall that there was some controversy about that based on previous holders of the name.

    Thanks for any info.

Hi C.F. He's wearing the Order of Canada

I can't speak for the U.K. or other parts of the Commonwealth, but there's been no controversy about his name in Australia.
Why a four-year-old child could understand this report! Run out and find me a four-year-old child, I can't make head or tail of it.

I’m unaware of any controversy about the name CF. The last Charles was Charles II so he became Charles III. Like the Pope though, he could have taken any name. He could have decided on George VII or even Henry IX for example.

As Mike said, he could have chosen any name. Though in deference to Queen Victoria's wishes, taking Albert is not done. Which is why Prince Albert became Edward VII.

Charles III is better than Charles 'X'

Nope, no controversy about 'Charles III' whatsoever. The news outlets, before the official announcements, weren't sure if he would follow the Queen Mother's preference for 'George VII' (in honour of her late husband - which is ironic because he was originally another Albert).
