Trump Found Guilty on All 34 Counts in Hush Money Trial

It’s a sad state of affairs and almost unbelievable to me that a convicted criminal can still be allowed to run for President. I have little or no time for our politicians in the UK but if that happened here the party in question would just dump the candidate. Let’s face it, Trump won’t be going to prison and this will only serve to make his supporters see him as a persecuted martyr. Can we really be in a position where this utter moron might actually be President again? What a world we’re living in.Regards
Sir Herlock Sholmes.

Has it been saved though? He’s still a persecuted hero for many and he’s still running for the Presidency. It would be funny if they sentenced him to prison. I can almost imagine the news - “….and now over to the summit where President Trump is appearing via video link from his cell.”Regards

I think that the scale of the defeat (unanimous, on all 34 counts and inside 3 days) will hit it home to him that the other cases will bury him in the clink unless he becomes president and tries to nix the other 3 ongoing crimnal cases against himself (which in all honesty, should result in a third impeachment by Feb '25).
What was a game to him until last week is now a battle for survival. He will stop at nothing to get back into the White House... I hear that quite a few bed-sheet businesses have started ramping up production already.

The Jan. 6 case will almost certainly be dismissed as well, because the SCOTUS decision practically gave their instruction:
And some Presidential conduct—for example, speaking to and on behalf of the American people, see Trump v. Hawaii, 585 U. S. 667, 701 (2018)—certainly can qualify as official even when not obviously connected to a particular constitutional or statutory provision. For those reasons, the immunity we have recognized extends to the “outer perimeter” of the President’s official responsibilities, covering actions so long as they are “not manifestly or palpably beyond [his] authority. The indictment also contains various allegations regarding Trump’s conduct in connection with the events of January 6 itself. The alleged conduct largely consists of Trump’s communications in the form of Tweets and a public address. The President possesses “extraordinary power to speak to his fellow citizens and on their behalf.” Trump v. Hawaii, 585 U. S. 667, 701. So most of a President’s public Cite as: 603 U. S. ____ (2024) 7 Syllabus communications are likely to fall comfortably within the outer perimeter of his official responsibilities.
So in one fell swoop, SCOTUS has decided that "abuse of power" is something that simply cannot exist in a president. If the president has the power to do something, it is explicitly protected by absolute immunity. If the president does something illegal not using powers granted to him, they are not explicitly protected by absolute immunity... only almost certainly.
The only silver lining in all of this is that all of this happens before election, so that people can see the danger in letting Trump anywhere near the White House.

The DoJ can of course just take the case back from special counsel and prosecute it themselves.
The funny thing here is of course that Hunter Biden was convicted following a special counsel prosecution and he now actually stands a decent chance to have his conviction overturned.
