        TBH Abby, I'm familiar with his writing but I know very little about the man himself.

        I've just bought a biography to remedy that!

          Yes, he was. Watched a documentary on him. One thing that really stood out was how common death and the loss of loved ones was in his time. Parents, children, friends. Just about anything could take you out in his time. Death was all around and you had to have been shaped by that.
