  • How Do You Do It?

I’ve meant to ask this before but never got around to it. I often see posts made where one word is in red and it serves as a link. Can someone explain how this is done please. And bear in mind that it’s me that you’re explaining it to and not a 15 year old who actually speaks the language of tech.
    Regards

    Sir Herlock Sholmes.

I do this by highlighting the word to use as hyperlink and then press the chain icon in the toolbar in the edit window.

Sometimes I struggle to get any further text I type to stop being a hyperlink. I believe the chain with the x icon is the escape from making text a hyperlink command.

The 2 chain icons (start hyperlink/stop hyperlink) is next to the mountain with sun icon.

I'm sure someone will explain this better than me, but I hope this helps anyway.

      Steps:
      1. Write something.
      2. Copy an existing hyperlink, which could be a website address like https://casebook.org, or a post link such as https://forum.casebook.org/forum/soc...-it#post823862 - this example is a link to (your) post #1 in this thread, which I obtained be right-clicking #1 at the top-right of your post, and then clicking Copy link.
      3. Highlight the portion of the text you wrote that you want to turn into a hyperlink.
      4. Click on the link icon (looks like a chain link) or press Ctrl-L.
      5. Paste the hyperlink into the URL field and click OK.

        The rain in Spain

That didn’t work, I’ll try again.

            I wrote the sentence.

            Clicked the chain.

Pasted the link into the box that appeared below.

            Then clicked ‘add link.’

            Then posted.

I can see a chain at the top next to the camera icon (which is what I’ve been using) but now I’ll try it with the chain next to the mountain icon and see if it works.

By Jove I think I’ve done it.

I was using the wrong chain icon. Maybe the one I was original using only appears on an iPad so you two possibly don’t have it?

                Anyway, Andrew/Martyn, thank you.

Hi Herlock, you're welcome, no problem. Andrews guide was the better.

Anyhow here's some urls to practice linking to:

I’ve seen that website before Martyn. I followed a link to it from somewhere.
