      New York Times Obituary

Wilson died over a week ago. The obituary in the New York Times just appeared in the issue of Friday, December 13, 2013. While it mentioned his first novel "The Outsider", and the later novels "Ritual In the Dark" and three others like "The Schoolgirl Murder Case, it also mentioned his book on Rasputin and his later books on the occult and on criminal history. It did not go into any detail about his theory regarding murder as an intellectual-emotional outlet for people who were socially stymied from advancing in any other manner. This theory is not universally accepted by any means, but it was one of the most original ones I ever came across.

I most remember him from the 1988 TV presentation The Secret Identity of Jack the Ripper hosted by Peter Ustinov. In the program, he gave the case (somehow reluctantly it seemed to me) for PAV being JtR.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

Colin was most generous with his help and advice when I was undertaking research for my book in the late Eighties and early Nineties. He was a true gentleman whose psychological insights into the Ripper case no longer receive the acclaim they deserve. Along with Robin Odell, Joe Gaute and Richard Whittington-Egan, Colin's contributions were a watershed which paved the way for the far more forensic and historically accurate approach to the case that has emerged over recent years. He will be sorely missed.
