Georgia teacher fired after reading book on gender to fifth-grade class

The picture book by an Australian author was about a boy who remarks that his mother's shadow is pink, his father's shadow is blue, but his own shadow is purple.
A fifth-grade teacher of students aged 10 yrs old read it aloud to her class. It cost her employment at her elementary school in Georgia, even after a tribunial of teachers said she should not be fired.

The school board wanted to stick to "preparing children for real-world subjects" (whatever that means) Guess that means gender isn't real to them?

They overruled an examination the teacher had already had which said she did nothing wrong. And free speech for teachers doesn't seem to exist, particularly at lower levels. Sad.
