I wasn't aware that U.K. internet has been censored all these years.

I am always amazed at how people ignore the lessons learned from Prohibition. I remember watching the Ken Burns special on Prohibition. A commentator said if you have kids and want them to brush their teeth simply tell them not to do it and they better not let you catch them doing it. They'll be brushing like a son of a bitch. It's just human nature.

Yes. Prohibition strengthened organized crime like nothing before it or since. And when alcohol was legalize again, they had a perfect network of illicit distribution in place and simply needed a new product. So alcohol was replaced with drugs. Hence the drug problem today.

Prohibition also created a number of female alcoholics. Drinking during Prohibition was fun and daring and attracted a lot of young women who had really not experienced drinking prior to its enactment.

"Bathtub gin" also killed a number of people and made others seriously ill.

It was simply a bad idea all around.

There was a story this week that the British government were already planning to extend the blockage to "piracy" sites.

Magpie, it's poor form on the part of our government. Thing is most of them are getting whipped right, left and centre in some dungeon by Miss Whip on a regular basis.

I'm still genuinely surprised there's censorship in England. I remember the 'video nasties' stuff with Thatcher in the 80's. I read horror magazines like Fangoria at the time and they'd talk about it. But I thought all that was in the past.
What else would I be surprised to learn is censored in the UK?
I'm of the opinion that all people regardless of where you're at should have the same access to everything. But the internet is progressively becoming more separatist. Just look at research databases online.

Tom, any American who thinks Britain is the land of the free, had better think again :

Who would want to see Margaret Thatcher nude? Ooooh.

                            The French.

We declared them unnecessary a few months back, and decided the appropriate course of action was to render them illegal.

It is now illegal for a Frenchie to even look in the direction of England.

I'm not one for Government censorship, but on this occasion I made an exception and backed them to the hilt.

I wondered why all the British sewers were being re-directed towards the 'chunnel'...
