  • Man in hyper-realistic collie dog costume goe "walkiies"

I had heard a reference to this a few days ago, but just came across this during a bout of insominia. Don't know what to make of the "uncanny valley' between the dog appearance, yet weirdly human movement. No dog flops on its side so stiffly like that!

They said he'd had this dream all his life. All kids play at being animals... guess he really enjoyed it?

I’d question the term ‘hyper-realistic’ Pat. A Border Collie that’s the size of a young Grizzly Bear. I’d love to have seen the looks on the casting Director’s face after someone presented this potential Lassie.

Sorry to be a dog pedant, Herlock but I believe he's meant to a rough collie not a border!

Inaccuracies challenged even on a thread about some weird bloke who wants to be a dog!!

Cue the "he looks a bit rough / ruff" gags......

        What about this?

Is the dog guy branching out, or is that a real sun bear?

It’s always ok to get things right Ms D. When I said Lassie, of course I really meant Lassie’s cousin Brenda….who is a Rough Collie of course.

I was going to tell you about Brenda being the Black Sheep of the family but I didn’t want to confuse matters.

I can put up with yer actual faux bear.
It’s the dogs masquerading as lions I don’t like.

Those dogs… not content with being our best friends, and getting high profile television work like Lassie and Scooby Doo, wanna branch into king of the jungle Man-eater (or woman) territory.

It's no Border Collie, but the larger Rough Coat collie associated with Scotland. Like in the old "Lad-a-dog" books I have read, or "Lassie" of TV fame (actually played by several male dogs, as they have more luxurious coats).

I've seen hyper-realiistic animal props made for movies, and wonder which company obliged with this costume. It's a far cry from the fannish side cult of "furries" which are more likely to be anthromorphic cartoon/anime animals that go about on two legs.

The zoo keeps saying their Sun Bears are authentic animals. (Do they protest too much?)

Wiki indicates these are the smallest variety of bears and the most likely to climb trees.

Another odd creature that suggests it's a muppet or suited human is the Shoebill Stork.

That stork does indeed have a kind of Jim Henson vibe.

Hahahaha! "It had the mange and everything!".

That horse / poodle is quite something too.

I've never had any cross dressing animals, but I did once have a pet rat who was the spitting image of Tom Cruise.

                      It was honestly uncanny.

People would initially find this hard to believe, but once they met the rat or saw a picture, it was generally acknowledged that there was a striking resemblance.

                        Poor rat!
