Chaos in Atlanta, GA., as a mentally-ill Coast Guard veteran became agitated while waiting for an appointment in an "urgent care" health clinic. He used a handgun to shoot five women, then carjacked a vehicle and drove away. One victim died at scene, three are in critical condition.

So... another man-hunt. In another conservative state. Guns don't solve every "problem", in daily living. Such idiocy!

They arrested the man who killed 1, injured 4, in the Atlanta urgent care health facility.

maybe a conservate state but Atlanta is Democrat run city, no..? The question IMHO really is, was this veteran certified "mentally ill" and if so, why did he have a gun? I would assume so. Driving off will not solve the problem about waiting to be seen by a doctor.

They did catch this guy, inside a gated community. Residents said barking dogs made them suspicious and they called the police.
The man's mother said she was there with him. He wanted to complain they'd given him a different prescription for his anxiety/depression and he wanted the other one back. They were waiting.... and then he made a disturbance, and he lost it and pulled out his concealed carry gun.

They have a group out here that melts down firearms people turn in and make gardening tools from guns. It's based on the phrase "they shall beat their swords into ploughshares and no longer practice war."

Atlanta has swung more "blue" in recent years, just as Denver has, but I think there are plenty of "reds" still voting.

He was diagnosed with anxiety and depression after serving in the Coast Guard. I think he had a beef with the Veteran's Administration for changing his precription to something that didn't work as well. He went to this non-VA clinic to get it changed back, and they had to wait to talk to anyone. He got agitated and "the situation escalated."
Apparently his hand-gun was concealed, but I'm not sure if he was licensed for that type of carry. (Maybe, as a veteran, he was.)

The Republicans who oppose sensible gun laws insist that "guns aren't the problem", but they also oppose sensible health care and money for mental health care, domestic violence, better police education, more social workers and suicide prevention, V.A. hospitial reform, etc.

As you no doubt know, that mass shooting in Atlanta wasn't the only one in Georgia during that 24-hour period. There was also a weirdo in the rural town of Moultrie, Georgia who killed his mother, then drove over and killed his grandmother, before traveling to a fast-food restaurant and killing the female manager. Somewhat typically, he then committed suicide. Statistically the U.S. is on pace to make this the deadliest year on record for multiple shootings. There were 11 shootings that qualified as mass shootings on April 30th alone, many of them in the south. They are now so commonplace that at times they are barely reported in the national press--who take no more notice than they do to a severe thunderstorm or a particularly bad traffic accident. I can only imagine what the civilized world thinks of our cultural insanity.

That reminds me of this amazing sculpture made to highlight the issue of knife crime in the UK.

                  It's worth zooming right in.

The sheer number of knives used in the construction is rather sobering.

Mass murder is spreading to Belgrade, Serbia, apparently. There were two incidents in the same week recently, on two consequentive days: one at a workplace, the other at a elementary school. (The shooter at the school was only 13 years old! They have arrested his parents, because their law and custom hold parents responsible for the misdeeds of their offspring.)
I think the whole world is going mad.

difference being that when mass shootings happen in other countries, politicians are taking action to get guns off the street:

The president's promise comes after two mass shootings within 48 hours killed 17 people.

Apart from US Republicans, I am not aware of any other demographic in the world that believe that more guns are the solution to mass shootings.
