I'm not convinced the legal system has the guts to go through with it. I've already heard one Democrat, some months ago, say we can't have a President going to prison no matter who it is.
If they decide against it the rest of the world will see what type of country the US really is.

Yep, the show is going to be incredible. Buckle up everyone. This will help Trump with the MAGA crowd but no one else. He has 25% of the country and they will follow him off a cliff, into a cell or into the grave. It's an Orange Oyster Death Cult. For the other 75% of the country, it's just damage imitation time. Literally.

In a way I agree that this falsifying business records (even if it is in order to cover up a federal election crime) in itself is pretty weak. I simply assume that most businesses have doctored records of some kind but this does not mean that when someone is caught he/she should be let off. But all the Hoo-ha we are seeing here is nothing compared to what will happen once the charges for Conspiracy to Defraud the United States and Racketeering come out of Georgia. Or when Jack Smith concludes his January 6 and "Obstruction to retrieve classified federal property from Mar-a-Lago" (my description) case.

American elections are probably the best reality t.v going around.

Make no mistake the dems will use this as a political tool every chance they get.

I think both sides are going to try and exploit this to their respective advantages.

Yeah, I'm with Svensson in that I believe criminal behaviour should not go unpunished regardless of who is responsible.

I don't know about the Democrats desire for that mug shot, but I believe Trump himself has requested that he be handcuffed for his "perp walk" and has stated that he doesn't care if someone shoots him (presumably provided the shot isn't fatal!!).

It looks to me like he is preparing to play the martyr and his fanbase are lapping it up.

if he doesn't go down, I fear this may actually improve his popularity and boost his ratings.

I have to admit that I'm kind of a "law and order" guy. If there is evidence of a crime comitted by an individual, that individual should be charged. If the evidence convinces a jury beyond resonable doubt that that the individual charged was responsible for the crime, that individual should be going down.

We are living in a time where this view is not universely considered uncontroversial. This morning, I woke up to the sound of Republicans crying that this is all unfair and outrageous. The charges and its evidence have not yet been made public, but their validity has already been trashed on Fox and affiliated networks. There have been politicians stating that, without having examined any of the evidence and without any self-awareness, the indictment is "political". That alone broke my irony-meter so I'll have to go to the shop later and get myself a new one.

So they are literally advocating for a carve-out for Rebupubican politicians. Hey, there is evidence that busness records have been falsified. A lawyer has already gone to prison for this. The DA is now suggesting to a grand jury that the co-conspirator should be charged with the same crime and presented evidece to the fact that 1. DJT is the co-conspirator and 2. His actions as a co-conspirator were criminal. The grand jury agreed with the DA. But some Republicans like McCarthy, Scalise, Jordan,Cruz and Graham insist on an exception for Republican politicians.

No one should be above the law. No one. Fullstop. If you don't prosecute powerful people simply because they are powerful, then you are a banana-republic.

I'm condering flying to NYC on Tuesday so I can stand in front of the court house to shout "Lock Him Up!"
