  • Romance author fakes her own unaliving (allegedly)

This unfolded throughout the last few weeks and is completely bananas. Indie romance author Susan Meachan allegedly faked her own unaliving and recently announced that she’s back from the dead, baby.
Scandal and despair hit the romance community when Susan Meachen was purportedly bullied into suicide. Was it a hoax?

That’s a weird story Linotte. It will be interesting to see what further information emerges. The part about grieving fans funding her funeral costs raises eyebrows immediately. Who received the cash and do they still have it? Will fans get their money back? It sounds like there might be a case for the police getting involved on this one?

Yes, most likely. Author Suzan Tisdale has been researching it and trying to sort through the dross on her You Tube channel. She used to be a paralegal so she knows what to look for. She has had her share of drama in Romancelandia, but with this, she is dead on.

If you guys thought the Rubenhold situation was nuts, there’s some real doozies out there!

I read an article on this that included the idea she concocted it to gain attention and possibly boost sales.

I've heard of feuds between Romance authors and some other scandals, but this is the first faked suicide.
Among authors of fan fiction, this sort of thing is slightly more common. I think social media is to blame.

A Fake Death in Romancelandia https://nyti.ms/3iAeIAl

More details about the faked death of a romance author (self-published on Amazon) who admits she found the Internet to be "an addiction."
She had chatted with other self-published authors about her "mental health struggles" and her "poor treatment" by other authors. Many people assumed she had died by suicide, leading to the outpouring of concern and money to a fund.
