  • PC testimonies regarding Miller's Court and surrounding streets

Thought it might be interesting to research any testimonies or press reports from any PC's relating to Kelly's murder for the surrounding streets.

    - Thrawl Street
    - Commercial Street
    - Dorset Street
    - Other pertinent street/alley.

Please can anyone help with the following:

Can anyone point to any previous threads on this?
Or have any info or thoughts on this.
Do we know the names of the PC's and/or their numbers?
Is there an unexpected absence of testimonies/press reports on this?

    Thanks for any help,

    Martyn

Hi Martyn. Here is a start for you. PC did not pass Dorset St. in his beat - Casebook: Jack the Ripper Forums

PC L63, first thought to be named Morton, but later research by the good people on this board found his name to be Rouse.

I did a bit of research here, PC H38, George Blunden - Jack The Ripper Forums - Ripperology For The 21st Century (jtrforums.com), on PC George Blunden who made an arrest on Dorset Street on October 31, 1888. I wondered if he could have still been on that beat a little over a week later?

Also, something to be further looked into maybe. I think I did a little but gave up. PC 190H (Willie Bettles) was patrolling near Bell Lane on the night of the Eddowes murder. I have reason to believe his beat also covered Dorset Street because I found a case in April of 1888 where he was in fact on patrol in Dorset Street. (see Post #9 here; **Little Patch From Hell On Dorset Street** - Jack The Ripper Forums - Ripperology For The 21st Century (jtrforums.com)) It was Bettles that stayed to keep watch of the Goulston Street dwellings while PC Long went to the station.

            Hope this stuff helps.

Just quickly browsing he thread "PC did not pass Dorset St. in his beat" is really interesting and lots of interesting points to consider and not just on the PCs.

For example David Orsam posts on Warren being active after he submitted his resignation. I always thought the confusion about waiting for the bloodhounds due to Warren having submitted his resignation didn't ring true and was just an excuse for the boss cops to falsely explain why they delayed entering no. 13.

Wish all threads were as good as this one!
