Rock 'n' Roll Legend Jerry Lee Lewis Dies at 87

The rock pioneer captivated audiences with extravagant antics. But scrutiny of his personal life nearly derailed his musical career.

Jerry Lee was indeed a wild man. One of my favorite stories involves Jerry Lee taking his Cadillac convertible for a ride in the country. He stops to gas up and notices a rack of bootleg tapes including his next to the pumps. He picks it up and throws it to the ground and proceeds to stomp on the tapes with his cowboy boots. As he jumps backs into his convertible and peels off, a very upset teenage attendant runs out and says "hey, what do I tell the boss?" Jerry Lee leans out the window as he is driving away and says "tell him "the killer" was here."

Yeah all reports I’ve read suggest that, so I do believe he’s currently dead, although I’m torn between the legend thing and the other side of the coin where he notoriously married his 13 year old cousin.

I do hate it when your hero’s do something messed up and completely unacceptable

Just to be clear on Thursday he was announced dead, then half an hour later that was retracted, itNow seems that he has died, that is the second time this year someone was announced as having died, then announced they hadn’t then a day or so later they actually died, seems the press are doing their normal great job on check8ng things.

ok, found it. looks like his death was correctly reported, then TMZ were pranked by someone claiming to be his rep and they run with it without verifying the news....

I heard nothing at all about the report being "mistaken" here in the States; both local and network evening newscasts reported the passing of Jerry Lee Lewis. ("Great Balls o' Fire!")

We saw him in concert at Lulu's here in town in April '97, Suzie Quatro was his lead guitarist.
Quite the show, the Concert History web page is apparently incomplete.

My favorite was his first hit - Crazy Arms.

In this case we do 'know' who The Killer was - RIP
