  • Suella Braverman's resignation

    Full resignation letter here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63320750

I found the following paragraphs the most interesting:

    Quote
I have concerns about the direction of this government. Not only have we broken key pledges that were promised to our voters, but I have had serious concerns about this Government's commitment to honouring manifesto commitments...
    Unquote.

On the face of it, she sounds quite honest and decent. No wonder she didn't last that long!

Suella Braverman has said that seeing a flight take asylum seekers to Rwanda is her “dream” and “obsession”.”

Her dream is to people traffic people seeking asylum, against their will, to the middle of Africa with no hope of return.
Not decent at all in fact very wicked indeed.

Yes - that's the reason she didn't last long - nothing to do with her extreme and highly distasteful politics and diatribes.

the interesting thing is that during the Tory conference, which was AFTER the mini-budget, she accused some other Tories of plotting against Truss and that they should get behind her instead. What changed since then?

Also interesting: she *officcially* resigned over using a private email-account for government business. Unheard of in the US

How about renaming it the "Bring back Boris" thread?

I see MsDiddles more of a Rees-Mogg supporter...

Oh, it's already through the roof at the mere mention of the Bring Back Boris campaign.

Signing up for one of those one way trips to Mars is looking increasingly appealing right now.

                    I vote Larry the cat.

                      Hahaha!

                      Nice one Martyn!

It's kind of like a Dickens character personified, isn't it (but not in an endearing way).

( I refuse to use the pronoun "he" as that humanises it)!

I've often wondered what our friends abroad make of Rees Mogg.

                      Svensson you're German, right?

                      What's your take?

Is it one of the weirdest things you've ever seen or heard?

                      I'm genuinely interested!

german by birth but i have lived in London, Croydon, woking area for 28 years. Covid, Brexit and family reasons made me move to Holland 2 years ago (my hot wife is dutch).

i find it actually terribly sad what is happening. it is IMO the result of a culture that allowed for almost two decades systematic lies with a jingoistic goal spread by narcissists in some quarters of the media and politics to spread and infest the centre right of UK politics. When Cameron called the referendum,in 2015, it was already too late. Lunacy had already taken over much of politics and celebrity. Once the 48/52 result was known, it required ideologues (instead of qualified politicians) to deliver the result. it's an environment where people like Rees-Mogg, Johnsson, Kwarteng and Truss could fester and then flourish. the Tories have been systematically purged of pragmatists and realists and this where we have ended up.

So yes, this is probably one of the weirdest episodes in western politics i have witness from close quarters. However, given what happened in 2016, this was always one of the possible scenarios.

I intend to keep my UK citizenship; I haven't ruled out returning one day. My daughter misses her friends and our old neighborhood and I miss my Saturday afternoons in Camden terribly. However, i realise that due my in-law's health issues and the fact that our house in Holland is twice the size of what we had in the UK means that this won't be happening anytime soon...

PS: my wife was checking what i was doing and insisted on describing her as "hot"

i find him fascinating. But he should be studied, not elected.
